Illustrated “Go Jump in the Pool”

For all you Bruno and Boots fans out there (you know, all… three of us… *sheds a single tear*), I’m going to share something that I thought you might find interesting!

(For those not in the know, “Bruno and Boots” is a series of seven books by Canadian YA author Gordon Korman.  He wrote the first one in the series when he was twelve.  TWELVE!  Anyway, the series is a comedic tour de force and everyone should read them.  This means you)

I’m always picking up stray copies of the books when I see them in second hand stores, and once I happened upon what I can only assume was a first edition printing of “Go Jump in the Pool.”  I’m only assuming this because oddly enough the copy-write page is torn out… All I know is, it’s GOT to be older than the painted cover you usually see.  Check it out.

Notice Wilbur in the background with the Fizz-All.  Also, Bruno’s totally breaking the fourth wall.

But it gets better!  Because you see, this edition has illustrations! Presumably by the same artist who did the cover art.

Exhibit A: Crestfallen Boots Emerges from the York Academy Pool. :-(

Bruno, you shouldn’t be standing so close to the pool with your shoes on!

Exhibit B: Miss Scrimmage in the Process of Being Arrested.

This picture is precious.  Not only to we get to see Miss S. in her famous dressing gown, slippers and hair-curlers, but the expression on the taller policeman’s face is worth the proverbial thousand words.  Also, I do believe it’s the first time we see the police get involved in one of the riots!  Awww. ^_^

Exhibit C:  Elmer Charms the Owl.

Um.  Yeah.  Elmer wins at life.  Forever.

Also, without the context this picture is COMPLETELY CRAZY!

Exhibit D: Mr. Sturgeon Gets Some of His Own Back.

A little less avant-garde than the previous picture perhaps, but still very effective.  Look at how happy The Fish is!  Also, look at that polka-dot tie.  Whoa Mr. Sturgeon, whoa.

I actually really like the posing in this picture, especially of Bruno.  Very well drawn.

Exhibit E: Bruno Gets Some Air and George Wexford-Smyth III Gives the… Peace Sign?

Wow.  I’m impressed, George.

Also, what is happening with Boot’s face?

And finally,

Exhibit F: Because it’s Adorable

You guys, you guys!  “Beware the Fish” wasn’t even published yet!  Did such a time really ever exist?  Look at him, still in secondary school and keeping up with his studies despite having to fit in that radio interview and that TV spot.  Aww, he wants to make writing his “real career!”

Also, did you realize that “I Want to Go Home” was a spoof about summer camp?  And how does someone who’s already a rock star “accidentally vault to stardom?” *is confused*

Actually… the longer I look at this picture the more he looks like a young Neil Gaiman.  Whaaaa???

I failed on this…I hope artoveli like’s it….I’m gonna go hide now…

You’re too hard on yourself, it’s adorable! ^_^  Thank you for drawing my little guy.

My drawing of Zimiestef’s Wheatley for the Wheatley Fanart Exchange! :-D
It was fun to draw a human Wheatley for a change, since my design - while humanoid - is still a robot.
I don’t think it’s a particularly inspired piece of art, since I couldn’t really come up with any good ideas for settings or situations… but for some reason every time I tried to draw this guy he seemed to be flailing in the air.  Excursion Funnel it is! XD
I hope you like it Zimiestef, despite the rather hum-drum composition.  I had fun drawing him!

Fork owns an impressive intelligence, however can only do so once an hour. Additionally, she is protected from damage by a diamond-like hide, but only while concentrating. Fork has been known to copy any one power of her combatants. Shamefully, Fork endures the burden of being insane.
Cool.

Pettyartist has developed a magnificent collection of useful gadgets. Also, she has been known to spin like a whirlwind and she has learned to make butterflies appear from nowhere. Lamentably, Pettyartist takes harm from exposure to silver.
…
SILVER.

Mod has learned to transform shadow into ice, however using this power draws a lot of attention. Additionally, she can deflect electricity. Lamentably, Mod struggles with being insane.
Never has a more accurate description of me been generated at random.

Katniss has the power to cause her assailants to become tired. Also, she has a reputation for an impressive willpower and she is able to become camouflaged, but never during a full moon. Katniss is able to transform any cow into fire. Terribly, Katniss suffers from being ill-mannered.
Katniss Everdeen, the Cow-Girl on Fire!  Seriously, it’s kind of weird how well most of this fit. XD

perianfrost asked: Holy bejesus, you're doing audiobooks for B&B!? THIS IS POSSIBLY THE GREATEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD.

I am indeed!  There are a few bits I’ve got to re-record because I accidentally read the wrong name (Boots replying to Boots, for example), or I didn’t get the inflection right, etc.  Besides that there’s a bit of mouth-smacking (I tried to keep it to a minimum, but it’s dashed difficult!) and occasionally the sound of distant traffic.  But for all that, I think it’s fairly good. :-)

Unfortunately I can’t do any re-recording right now because I’ve currently got a cold that’s transformed my voice into something not-of-this-world.  It’s driving me kind of crazy because I really want to start posting this soon and get on to recording “Go Jump in the Pool!”  All I can do right now is edit the timing and convert the approved chapters into uploadable format… and trawl the B&B/MacDonald Hall/Gordon Korman tags on Tumblr, of course. XD

{...}: For Christmas, I got a book I've been looking for for 12 years. -

perianfrost:

Does anybody remember the Bruno & Boots books by Gordon Korman? He also wrote No More Dead Dogs, the Island, Dive, and Everest series, The Twinkie Squad, Jake Reinvented and a ton of other really good YA books you should check out if you have the time.

But the Bruno & Boots books… They’re…

I DO!!! *waves hand frantically*

My sister and I have recently binge-read the whole series again too, aloud before bed every night.  There were parts in every single book that STILL made us roll around in uncontrollable laughter.  Seeing as we’re both twenty-something, apartment-renting, bread-winning adult types, this says something about how amazing the series is. XD

Since my sister and I have recently come into possession of a fairly nice microphone, pop-filter and sound-card, I’ve decided to record audio books of the entire series.  I’ve currently got all of “This Can’t be Happening at MacDonald Hall” recorded and am just tweaking it a bit before I begin to upload it.  I’m doing this because more people need to experience the joy that is Bruno and Boots, even if it means I have to cram said joy into their ears via the internet!  Plus, now I can listen to it while I ride the bus to work. :D

My very own Hunger Games fanfic.
